How it works
How does Subcision work?
A tri-beveled hypodermic needle is inserted into the skin directly beneath the scar. The sharp edge of the needle is used to break fibrotic strands that are tethering the scar to the underlying tissue. These fibrotic strands are formed during the inflammatory acne process and are left behind after the healing phase. Once the fibrotic strands are released, it will trigger wound healing and promote collagen production. Both lifting of the scar and the release of collagen can help diminish the appearance of the scar leaving a smoother and flatter skin.
About subcision
What condition it treats
Acne scars are the result of inflammatory acne. The body produces too little collagen to repair the skin resulting in depressed scars that persists long after the acne resolves. Subcision involves inserting a small needle to break apart the fibrotic strands that pulls down the scar.
Wrinkles are the lines and creases that form in the skin. Some wrinkles can become deeper and more noticeable as a result of aging and decrease in collagen production. Subcision can break apart the fibrotic strands that pulls down the wrinkles and trigger collagen production.
