Introduction to Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and add volume to the face. It is very safe and effective, and they can be used to treat a variety of different areas of the face depending on the desired results. For example, injecting fillers into the cheeks can help to create a more youthful appearance, while injecting them into the lips can help to plump them up. It also helps to augment facial features such as taller nose, sharper chin, and a V-shaped face. Dermal fillers are a great way to achieve a more youthful appearance without surgery.

What are Dermal Fillers made of?

Dermal fillers are made of a variety of different materials. The most common dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic acid(HA), a substance that naturally occurs in the body. When injected into the skin, it works by binding to water molecules and which helps to keep skin hydrated and plump as well as creating a volumizing effect. HA fillers are very popular because they are very effective and have very few side effects.

Other popular materials used in dermal fillers include Calcium hydroxylapatite and Poly-L-lactic acid(PLLA).  Calcium hydroxylapatite is a substance that is found in the bones and teeth. It is often used as a dermal filler because it can help to add volume to the face and can also help to improve the appearance of wrinkles. PLLA is used to create structure, framework, and volume to the face. It is known as a bio-stimulatory dermal filler, this means it stimulates your own skin to produce new collagen.

How long do Dermal Fillers last?

The answer depends on the type of dermal filler used. Hyaluronic acid fillers last 6 to 12 months. PLLA fillers last up to 2 years. The length of time a dermal filler lasts also depends on the individual’s age, skin type, lifestyle, and the area treated. For example, younger patients with healthier skin may see results that last longer than older patients with more sun-damaged skin. And people who smoke or have a history of excessive sun exposure may see results that don’t last as long. As for the area treated, fillers injected into the lips generally last 6 months, while those injected into the cheeks can last up to 2 years.

If you’re considering dermal fillers, talk to your doctor about your goals and expectations. They can help you choose the right type of filler and determine how long you can expect the results to last.
