The skin resurfacing laser in Gem Clinic uses ablative fractional CO2 laser technology to remove or soften wrinkles, enlarged pores and scars. The laser is a device that generates an intense beam of focused light, which converts to thermal energy. When applied to the surface of the skin, it provides a controlled shedding of several layers of damaged skin. This exposes a new, fresh layer of skin with a smoother texture and more even colour. It also stimulates new cells to grow, thereby tightening the skin and decreasing wrinkling.
Skin resurfacing laser can be applied to the full face or a specific region of the face such as around the eyes or mouth. It can also be used to treat any areas of the body with sun-damaged skin, wrinkles or scars.
Skin resurfacing laser can be used for people with sun-damaged skin, wrinkling around the eyes and mouth, skin laxity in the lower eyelid area as well as people with scars that have made the surface of their skin uneven. It can also be used for certain non-cancerous skin growths.
The number of treatment sessions required depends on the severity of the skin condition and ranges from one to twelve sessions to achieve promising results.
The duration from skin cleansing, numb cream application to laser procedure takes about 45 minutes.
Patient will feel no pain or only minimal discomfort after numb cream application.
After the treatment, the skin will look as if it has a sunburn. Most people take 5 to 7 days to heal from a skin resurfacing laser treatment. In cases where scars are severe, the downtime can be longer. The doctor will have a 2-way communication with the client to establish the expectation of downtime to achieve great result.
After a skin resurfacing laser treatment, the patient is advised to avoid extreme sun exposure for around 2 weeks. Sun protection is mandatory. It is recommended for the patient to use post laser facial products to achieve better healing and result. Good hydration to the skin with moisturizing products such as skin care products or facial masks will result in a better outcome.
Clients often feel that our treatment is more intensive but more effective when compared to conventional fractional CO2 laser. In most cases, clients feel only minimal discomfort/pain throughout the treatment.
