Deep Marionette Lines

Key Facts

Not everyone will get these lines and only some do. It can be due to genetics or caused by dehydrated skin, though most commonly is caused by aging.

Deep Marionette Lines are common frustration for many individuals. It is defined as the lines that run straight downwards from the corners of the mouth (lips) to the bottom of the chin.

It is mostly visible in aging skin. It tends to show emotions even if the person is not trying to show or express anything and is in a resting stage of expression.

These lines are very obvious and are prominent conditions suffered by many as it tends to add many more years to their current age. It affects the self-esteem and confidence of many especially if visible at a younger age or for those aging prematurely.

Not everyone will get these lines and only some do. It can be due to genetics or caused by dehydrated skin, though most commonly is caused by aging. The ligaments near the chin and mouth begin to loosen as we age. The fat deposits on the face will start to deplete creating hollowness under the skin which results in the facial skin to sag.

The Deep Marionette Line is visible as the bulging of the sagging inner cheek tissue below the corner of the mouth starts to crease on to the fixed line of internal ligamentous attachment to the skin from the deep muscle.

Gem offers three different kinds of treatments for this condition as follows:

Thread Lift

It is one of the more preferred treatments in Gem as it treats the root cause of the condition and provides an overall firmer face lessening laugh lines for a natural look. It lasts for about 9 months to a year.

It’s a non-surgical face lift using sugar threads which pulls up the skin to create a natural looking facial lift with a contoured defined look. The threads will melt and be absorbed in several months.

The threads are inserted in specific areas holding the deep tissue into place pulling up the sagging skin and holding it into place creating a lift whilst stimulating collagen production too.

Treatment is done after numbing cream is applied and patients feel only tolerable pricking needle pain sensations resulting in minimal downtime with certain individuals noticing only minor bruising after treatment. Results are noticeable almost immediately by clients and are very satisfactory.

HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

It is a non-invasive treatment used for the lifting and tightening of skin on the face and neck, being an alternative to facelift surgery. Significant results are noticeable with usage for Deep Marionette Lines.

It works by using beams of ultrasound to generate low levels of heat to the tissue beneath the skin causing it to contract and tighten up whilst stimulating natural collagen production. Three sessions are needed and results last for a year in average with zero downtime.

Filler + Botulinum Toxin

Both Botulinum Toxin and Fillers can be used to soften Marionette Lines either separately or in combination.

We would suggest a consultation with our doctors in order to determine the best mode of treatment for you depending on your condition state and severity to obtain best results.  Botox (Botulinum Type A) works by relaxing the muscles on either side of the mouth upturning and softening the mouth depression.

Fillers can be used to soften the look of the lines by plumping up the depression by adding volume to the cheeks and lifting the sagged skin of the cheeks. Both the procedures are done under numbing cream as well and has minimal or almost no downtime.
